Jesus Is the Reason For the Season

Well, it is the day after Christmas. Santa has come, presents have been unwrapped, family dinners have been eaten and dishes have been cleaned, church has been attended, the Christmas story has been told, but yet, something feels a little different this year. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is different.

As a child, I can remember that, butterfly, excitement feeling that I would get knowing Christmas was right around the corner. As an adult that feeling returned at two different times...1. When I became a Christian - and understood the true meaning of Christmas and 2. When I became a mother and was able to see that excitement in my childrens' faces.

This year seemed to be a tad different. I don't know if it is because, as Charlie Brown said in the Charlie Brown Christmas, that this time of year has become so commercialized that we neglect to focus on the true meaning or if it was the fact that it was a balmy 60 degrees with no chance of a hint of snow.

Whatever the case may be, the truth of the matter is Chrtstmas is the time of year for family and friends to come together and celebrate the birth of the greatest gift ever given to each and every one of us...Jesus Christ.

You Better Watch Out...

You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why.......

I think Tyler needs to pay closer attention to the words in this song...

Biting Off More Than You Can Chew

Sometimes I think as humans, we tend to bite off a little more than we can chew. I know Shawn and I do that quite often, but it is our neighbors (the one with 10 kids) that I am writing about.

Bless their hearts, not that the mom has her hands full enough, 10 kids, home schooling and all the other things that come along with that, but she has offered to dog sit for a friend of hers. When she offered, she wasn't sure of the breed, but I am here to tell you it was a St. Bernard. A year old St. Bernard. A HUGE St. Bernard. And what a site it is to see.

Yesterday, the 18 year old decided to walk the dog, better said as the dog decided to walk her. It was the funniest thing we have ever seen, but Shawn being the sweetie he is, went out and helped her. Even he had some issues trying to keep that thing contained.

If you haven't ever seen a St. Bernard in person (I hadn't...only saw them in the movies,) I'm here to tell you they are beautiful dogs. Soft, fluffy and with a tongue bigger than Joshua's head. I swear if it were to lick Josh, his whole face would be covered, and boy are they happy dogs. So happy that she tries to socialize with the entire neighborhood, taking the walker with her.

I have to say one thing, the neighbors next door do seem to take on a lot, but I have learned something from them. Always try to help out someone when they need it. It may be inconvenient for you, but it is a blessing to those you are helping. That is what the human spirit should be about.

Tyler Has Friends!!!!!

Since we moved to this area about a year ago, Tyler really hasn't made a strong friendships, which was something new to him (and to us too.) At the beach, he had a lot of friends.

Well, the house we bought has a family next door with 10 kids (God bless that mother,) and two of them are Tyler's age. Tyler played at their house for 5 hours (thank God for that as well,) and had a great time.

Tyler did tell me something that I thought was cute. He said Santa is not only bringing him toys this year, but gave him friends too. One to think about...

Tis the Season

Ok, Ok, I have become what I hate. One of those crazed moms who will do almost anything to get my child the toy of his dreams. Who would have though the 7-11 Slurpee machine would be one of the hottest items of the year. All sold out in stores...All sold out on-line and a normally $24.99 item selling for double (then they turn the knife on you a little more on the inflated shipping cost) on ebay.

But what do you do, when your 5 year old just knows Santa is going to bring that toy to him this year? Doesn't matter of all the other gifts, come Christmas day when the one gift he truly has asked for isn't there, then his heart is broke.

If anyone reading this in the next day or so finds a slurpee machine under $50.00 please let me know.

Creepy Crud

Well, it is definitely that time of year....The creepy crud has struck the Yancey family. I swear even Doc and Bogey are coughing a little.

It amazes me how different the crud takes over adults compared to children. We tried to keep Tyler home from school today, but to no avail. Even with Nana here. He was so worried that he would miss out on being the superkid (an honor bestowed on one child each day to do the chores at school that we can't pay him to do at home.) Me, on the otherhand, have been knocked out just about all day. Boy, growing up can be no fun.

Santa is Coming!!!

For all of you that know Tyler, know that he is pretty darned smart. Tonight he and I watched the Polar Express and he has decided that he is going to see Santa come into our house to deliver presents. He does have a few questions though....
1. We have a gas log fireplace, so how really does Santa come down the chimney we don't have ?
2. If Santa can see you when you're bad or good, then why does mommy keep threatening to call him when I don't listen?
3. and just how does Santa's sleigh not get run over by airplanes (we do live near a major airport)
We just remind him that Christmas is a magical time as is Santa. He knows that Santa brings everyone presents for a big birthday celebration for Jesus. Christmas began as a miracle with the birth of Jesus and continues on everyday of every year.

Blogging into this Century

Shawn and I have finally decided to start a family blog. I don't know whether it is because we feel like we are finally catching up with this century, or whether it is just a temporary thing, but nonetheless we have decided to try this thing.

With our families living all over the Eastern US, from NY to FL, this seemed like a logical way to share funny stories with those of you that we love.

Some days I expect that this blog will be a tad on the boring side and some days it might be, well, fun. Whatever it is, we hope you will like it.

We love you all. God Bless.
