A Few Precious Moments

I have to be honest.

Yesterday when I bought my car, by the end of the 7 1/2 hour sales experience, I was done. Had enough, didn't care about a new car, wanted to go home, but still bought one anyway, finished. I would have been done 4 hours earlier, but Shawn didn't like the first car I was looking at (four cylinder instead of six), so we had to settle on a car (which the next question was color,) before we came home.

I wanted to give up, but eventually Shawn and I agreed on the black fusion, as seen below.

Today though, after I had dropped the kids of at daycare (day 2 and still surviving, I'll blog about it tomorrow), I jumped on the interstate, cruised at about 70 and cranked the stereo losing myself in traffic and music.

At that very moment I realized, it didn't matter if my car was black or if it was pink. If I could just, every once in a while, have those few, precious moments of complete alone time, driving in my car, then it was all worth it.

Wouldn't you agree?

My New Car

Typical Blonde "Mom"ent

I don't normally pick on my mother, but I feel compelled to share with you her latest comment.

For those of you who don't know her, sometimes her died blonde hair, shows through so well, that you would think she was a natural blond (ok, for all you other blondes, I know it is just a figure of speech and of course doesn't hold true.) But let me start by giving you background info.

One time, around Christmas, I was 16 years old or so, we slid on the ice (remember I was born in Upstate NY) through a stop sign. I say, "Don't worry mom. The one's with white borders mean optional."

No joke, fifteen minutes later, and 10 stop signs later, my mother looks at me and asks innocently, "Don't they all have white borders?" (and she was seriously asking.)

Another time, she had come down to the beach (where we lived previously) for my oldests 1st birthday, as did Shawn's uncle and aunt. At this time, I had been with my husband for a couple of years, so she new him pretty well.

She woke up that morning and goes to where Shawn's family is sleeping and says "Good morning Dennis. Leslie, where do you keep the coffee filters?" No question why I would be in bed with my husbands Uncle. It just seemed to be very normal to her.

All this, leading up to my picture on the blog...

I got a phone call this weekend and this is how it went:

Mom: "I loved the picture of you and Shawn."

Me: "Picture of Shawn and I? What are you talking about?"

Mom: "The picture on your blog."

Me: "Mom! That is not of Shawn and me that is of Timothy Peters and me."

Mom: (pause) "Oooooh. Are you sure?"

Gotta love her.

Clean? Why Bother?

I have been cleaning (I am talking DEEP cleaning, not just picking up,) as we are having a ton of company this weekend.

I figured the best way to do this was go room to room. That way, I was working from the front to back and if I didn't have time to get to my bedroom (where everything will eventually end up,) oh well.

Well do you think anyone would understand that?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

As soon as I would get to the next room, Tyler or Shawn or the dogs or the friends would destroy the one I just finished cleaning. I think it looked better before I started to clean. And as I am frantically running around re-cleaning, where do you think my wonderful husband is? Is he helping me? NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

He is outside, washing his truck, since he doesn't want it to be a mess for when our friends get here. I can't quite understand that logic.

They won't be sleeping in the truck. They won't be eating in the truck. And they sure won't be hanging out in the 90 plus degree weather in the truck. So what gives? If anyone can explain, I sure would appreciate it.

Well gotta run, have 3 more rooms to finish.

Ok, I have got to ask this as I am starting to get a complex.

Do I write about uninteresting things, is no one reading this or does no one like to respond?

Gotta know.

Need I Say Anymore?

My New Crush

Oh, I almost forgot! One of the most important things! I have a crush! NCTS Driver, Timothy Peters. Drives for BHR (see previous email for link) and is No. 4.

He worked with us quite a bit for this NASCAR event, and is the kindest, sweetest (ok, ok, second only to my husband,) guy I have ever met. And HANDSOME!!!! ( and his girlfriend is just as beautiful as he is handsome, too.) Made my heart go flutter just a bit.

At least now Ty (who already seems to know all of his stats) and I will begin to watch the Truck Series and we'll have a driver that we can follow his career somewhat from the beginning.

Craftsman For A Cure

Ok, I know I haven't blogged in awhile, but work as kept me EXTREMELY busy the last couple of weeks.

Most of you know I have been working ont he NASCAR Craftsman event that was put on by Bobby Hamilton Racing http://www.bobbyhamiltonracing.com/and Craftsman Motorsports, due to Bobby Hamilton's recent cancer diagnosis.

The event was AMAZING,with a big part of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. Drivers from the Truck Series as well as the Cup Series were there. Hats off to Timothy Peters, Darryl Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Bobby Labonte, Bobby Hamilton Jr, Scott Lagasse, Kasey Kahne, Kenny Schrader, Ryan Newman, David Reuttiman, Kyle Petty, Kenny Wallace, Brian Vickers, Kenny Wallace, Kurt Busch, Todd Bodine, Ted Musgrave and the rest of the drivers that particpated. They really went out of their way to make this happen.

This event in itself really epitomizes the support that families all over give when someone close to them is diagnosed with cancer. Craftsman For A cure brought such a new found awareness of the American Cancer Society and what we do to the NASCAR Community.

A special kudos to Wendy Belk for making this all happen, without her, we couldn't do it.

Music To My Ears

When Tyler was little, he was pretty quiet up until around 2 years old. I can remember family members thinking maybe something was a wrong, since he didn't talk. It wasn't that he couldn't, it was that he wouldn't. After he reached 2 years old, all that would change...

Five years later comes Joshua. EVERYONE said, "He won't talk, because he has an older brother to do it for him." Well, I don't know where they got their information, because Joshua's nickname in our household is Mighty Mouth.

I am telling you, NON-STOP. I know some of you are thinking, "well he gets it honestly." I agree, I talk a lot, but nothing compared to these two. Everytime Shawn and I try to have a conversation, Joshua starts saying over and over again (and loud too), "Ay yie yie yie, da da da da "(hi squeeled I might add,) and Tyler joins in "La La La La, uno, dos, tres...," not to be outdone by his baby brother.

Now, when we stop talking...no one says a word. It's just like we all are having one HUGE conversation.

Well you know, I have learned something, the smaller they are, the louder they talk, but no matter what it still is (most of the time) music to my ears.

Mother's Day Cards

My mother's day cards were so great!!! Shawn and Joshua made me one and Tyler made me one:

Tyler's said:
Happy Mother's Day Mom!!!

All thes das I had so fun. Naw it is Mother's Day!!!

I am still trying to figure out if he meant we were going to have fun or if, because it was mother's day we wouldn't have fun. It was awesome.

and Shawn's
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I am glad you're the mother of my children
and that is so the truth.

What meant so much, is everyone who knows us, knows that I am the creative one. There has only been 3 other times, that Shawn ever wrote something to me...our Wedding Day, the day Tyler was born, the day I came home from the hospital with Joshua and for Mothers day.

These are the days I will never forget.

Fall Down Go Boom

We went to Friendly's to have a little ice cream (yes, I know that is not the way to lose weight,) but it was good. I had indulged in what was called Forbidden Fudge Brownie Sundae. Everything was chocolate, and it was fabulous.

Well Nana went with us, as we are in Myrtle Beach, and Tyler wanted to ride back to her house with her. As I was walking back from putting his booster seat in her car, the parking lot lights started flickering and then went out. I, then, tripped over the curb, and began to fall....Shawn said it looked as if I was sliding into second. And BOOM, I was down. I ripped a huge hole in my caprees, not to mention my knee. My arm is all cut up and bruised. It looks awful and it HURTS!!!!!!!!1

I have not skinned my knee since I was probably a kid. I forgot just how much skinned knees hurt. Shawn and I joked and said God just wanted to remind me of how they feel, as Tyler is learning to ride a bike with no training wheels and will probably have many of them to come.

American Idol

Shawn and I watch American Idol every week. This is one of those shows that we have always watched together.Tonight, though, is vote off night.

I can't take the suspense. I have come to love almost all of the performers, (Chris Daughtry, my favorite and from the Carolinas. ) I am so afraid and upset of who could possibly be voted off. Each one of them had one good song and one bad song. The suspense is really truly killing me.

The sad part is, I am not stressed because I want someone to win so bad. It's just that, (and I know that I am a sap,) I am afraid I will cry no matter who is voted off. Shawn laughs at me and says that you would think I personally know each contestant. But it is a hard thing to watch. Last week fortunately, I was at a work thing, so I didn't see the show. Shawn had to tell me who was kicked off.

So, I think this week, I will do the same. Pretend I am at work and let him tell me who gets the axe.
